Why Volunteer
The most important thing you can bring to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a compassionate heart. No special skills or experience are required — just a genuine desire to serve your neighbors.
Volunteering with SVDP is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Our volunteers consistently say that they receive far more from this work than they give. When you sit with a neighbor in need, listen to their story, and help them through a difficult time, you experience the kind of connection that makes life meaningful.
"You will find nothing more simple, more easy, or more charitable than SVDP. No institution so mild, so kind, and so useful."
- Frédéric Ozanam, SVDP Founder
What Volunteers Do
Home Visits — Visit neighbors who have requested assistance, listen to their needs, and coordinate a response.
Call Intake — Help receive and document requests for assistance by phone.
On-Call Support — Be available on a rotating basis to respond to incoming calls and follow up with neighbors.
Administrative Support — Help with scheduling, record-keeping, and reporting.
Fundraising & Events — Support our annual appeals and special events.
What to Expect
Training Provided: All new volunteers receive orientation and are paired with an experienced Vincentian for their first visits. SVDP also provides online training resources through the national organization.
Time Commitment: Most volunteers contribute 2–4 hours per week, though we are flexible. Even a few hours a month makes a real difference.
Team Environment: We meet regularly as a group to pray, share experiences, and support one another. You'll quickly find a family in your fellow Vincentians.
